Never Run Out Of Content Ideas Again

Never Run Out Of Content Ideas Again Do you create swipe files? You should. Headline swipe files are used for when writing headlines, obviously. But most often these swipes are a list of headlines to be modeled. Bullet swipe files are the same in most cases. Email swipes however, are not restricted to modeling other people’s emails. Which means there’s just so much more content to work off.

I even have a “drunk-book” that I write in whenever I’m pissed

Some of my best ideas have come to top of mind when I’m drunk. To not file these thoughts away for use at a later date, would be a crime. Then, whenever I’m rushed to write an email, I just open my swipes, get an idea, and write the email. It works. I don’t know how many times I’ve been asked where I come up with my ideas for emails. Apparently a lot of people run out of things to write about. It’s not possible. It’s not possible to run out of things to write about. You see and hear things every day that can be fodder for an email. Sure, you’re pro’bly not going to use them Immediately, but you should file them away for use at a later date. Why? Because it’s just the smart thing to do. Right now I’m in a rush and wanted to send you an email. Ordinarily I’d sit down for 30 minutes and come up with something to write. I haven’t got 30 minutes – and I don’t like rushing emails. So I go to my swipe files. I opened up one of the swipes and started to look for ideas on what to write about in this very blog post. I found a doozy.

It must have been a while back, but I took a statement the comedian Ricky Gervais said on the Piers Morgan show and wrote it down for later fodder

Piers “the twat” Morgan asked Ricky whether he worries about offending people with his comedy. I think this wasn’t long after the Golden Globes where Ricky took the piss out of all the celebrities. Anyway, his response… “I do my own thing and then I see if I survive. I wouldn’t have it any other way. If you start second guessing; if you start changing your material to make people like you… you’re finished. It’s not my job to worry about what other people think of me. That’s a job for a politician. I don’t care what other people think of me. I care that I’ve done a good job and I care that I told the truth. That’s all I care about. If someone gets offended (which is never intended) then that’s their problem. Either they don’t like me, or they learn to take a joke for what it is” Great marketing lesson in there me thinks. Again, especially for email marketing where it’s imperative you be yourself… and not a marketer. For the people who take everything literally, what I mean, is that you keep the objective of what your emails are trying to do (marketing) — but you never make your emails look like they came from a marketer. Think on that. Always create a swipe file of phrases, quotes, statements, jokes and anything else that grabs your attention. Even if you don’t use it today, you certainly will at some stage down the line. Judging by the emails I get, and I bet from a lot of emails you get… most people are not thinking like this.

Those people are your competition inside the Inboxes of your subscribers

Paying attention to little things like that, make a difference. It’s not just extended to email marketing though. Little changes to things like funnels, squeeze pages and product creation to name a few… can also dramatically improve results.
